A field feeding system has to be able to serve lots of hot food, in a short period of time, to military personnel anywhere on the battlefield
A single TRHS installed in a High Mobility Multi-Purpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV) was designed to feed 500 troops at 3 locations per day. However, this goal is routinely surpassed and even doubled. The “heat-on-the-move” capability ensures that when the TRHS equipped HMMWV arrives at it’s location, the food is already piping hot and ready to eat!
A field feeding system has to be easy to use
The TRHS is simple to use. In fact no cooking experience whatsoever is needed. Simply place 18 tray packs of food in the TRH, add 15 gallons of water, close the lid and turn on the switch. When the tray packs are heated, remove, open, and serve delicious hot food. Done!
A field feeding system has to be rugged and reliable in any climate
In the over 5 years the TRHS system has been in service with the US Marines, there hasn’t been a single mission failure or safety incident. By following simple instructions and basic maintenance procedures, the TRHS will operate without failure under virtually any conditions. TRHS's have been subjected to pounding off-road travel, extreme cold (-65°) extreme hot (125°), high winds, rain, you name it. The TRHS is well constructed of heavy stainless steel, and built to take military punishment.
A field feeding system has to be safe
The Tray Ration Heaters Airtronic® Burner operates on safe readily available diesel fuel. Diesel fuel can not explode or even ignite in it's liquid state. Most importantly, the Airtronic® Burner is fed by a safe remotely located fuel tank. In addition, there is no open flame in the TRHS system. All combustion takes place internally. All of the collateral equipment needed for the safe handling and serving of hot food is supplied with the TRHS.
A field feeding system has to burn clean
The TRHS with the Airtronic® burner is the only solution. All distillate fuels including diesel fuel will burn without any trace of smoke or odor. TRHS's are often installed at indoor locations and are operated without venting*. Even under these conditions, there is no smoke or odor. TRHS's are often mistaken for propane or electric devices due to the clean burning nature of the Airtronic® burner. It is important to note that the TRHS firebox and heat passageways never needs to be internally cleaned of soot or debris due to the smoke-free operation of the Airtronic® Burner.

The Tray Ration Heating System (TRHS)
provides the ultimate platform for total versatility in the field. The
very same TRHS, when equipped with optional accessories, can fulfill a
wide variety of cooking applications. Since each TRH is a self contained
unit that can prepare any type of food, multiple TRH's are ideally suited
to the mass feeding of hundreds of thousands of troops, refugees,
displaced persons, or the victims of natural disasters. many types
of fresh foods can be prepared such as those shown below.
Although non-vented operation is not recommended, the flue gas Carbon
Monoxide (CO) levels of the TRHS during operation are far below minimum OSHA safety levels for operation in an enclosed area.
